The Programme of Research on Climate Change Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation (PROVIA) has published its final report on VIA (or IAV, if you prefer) research priorities. As one might expect from a report written by researchers for researchers, there apparently are many priorities that need to be addressed. However, the report helps make this list more manageable by dividing the various priorities into three areas: Information to Support Decision-Making; Systems and Region; and Emerging Topics. However, the big priority that is overlooked in the report is the identification of funding sources that are willing to sponsor these many and varied research needs.
I'm a climate change research scientist in Knoxville, TN, USA. My career to date has been focused on environmental assessment and the communication of climate change science and impacts. Increasingly, my research involves working with stakeholders to understand climate risk and find pathways to adaptation.
